TRACER Coach Profile

Cause and Effect

I’m Joey Wilson, and I approach endurance training with the mind of an engineer and the heart of an ultra-runner. With a PhD in Engineering and a background in software, I view the human body as the ultimate complex system. I don’t believe in guesswork; I believe in cause and effect.

As a co-founder of TRACER, I run my coaching program directly through the app to make sure we are building a world-class, quality product for both athletes and coaches. By personally using TRACER, I have gotten faster and seen firsthand the incredible benefits of proper coaching powered by our platform—it really works.

Philosophy

My coaching philosophy is built on the intersection of deep data analysis and human physiology. I am constantly experimenting—using myself as the primary test subject—to bridge the gap between theoretical science and practical application. I specialize in energy metabolism and fueling strategies, ensuring my athletes aren’t just training hard, but are fueling their engines with precision.

But science is only part of the equation. I believe that when approached the right way, endurance sports make us better human beings. They teach us how our complex bodies work, challenge our spirits, and help us learn to let go of control when we suffer. They can also serve as powerful anchors to help us navigate stressful life situations—provided we have the grace and wisdom not to push too hard during those demanding times.

For Everyone

I was not born with elite genetics. I am not a former Olympian. I had to learn how to train meticulously to unlock my potential, eventually taking me from an everyday runner to completing mountain 100-milers. Because I didn’t have natural talent as a crutch, I understand the specific struggles of the everyday athlete. If you are looking for a coach who uses science, logic, and proven physiological principles to help you achieve what you didn’t think was possible, let’s get to work.
